Paris Academy of Health Sciences (AOHS)

Paris High School houses the Paris Academy of Health Sciences (AOHS) and welcomed its inaugural class of students in the fall of 2012. The mission of the Paris Academy of Health Sciences (AOHS) is to provide students an understanding of health science in order to make informed career decisions. Paris AOHS students will develop the academic knowledge and career skills needed to achieve personal and professional success in high school, higher education, and throughout their careers. Paris is pleased to partner with Maysville Community College and multiple health professionals in our community in order to make this academy possible.

Guest Speaker Talks Degrees

Casey Owen Shadix of the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences was a guest speaker on October 20, 2016. He discussed options for students interested in Medical Lab Sciences, Athletic training, Physical Therapy, Speech-Pathology and Clinical Nutrition

AOHS Hosts Several Speakers
Several speakers have been to Paris to speak to the AOHS students. One the right are UK College of Medicine Ambassadors, Jesse and Kayla. The Ambassadors educated and encouraged students about various health professions and medical educational opportunities.

In the photo bottom photo are Dr. Stephen Moses, family practice physician from Cynthiana and a third year U of L Medical Student, Sayo Akinyosaye. They shared information about medical school and encouraged students to do their best in high school.

       


Dietician Visits AOHS

 
Jara Bauer, Dietitian, from Harrison Memorial Hospital visited Mrs. Amy Majewski's first year AOHS students to discuss the various careers in dietary.

AOHS Hosts Guest Speaker
 
Kyla Anderson, RN from Harrison Memorial Hospital visited Mrs. Amy Majewski's first year AOHS students on October 28.  She discussed the many opportunities available for a career in nursing.

BCHD Director Visits AOHS
 
On Monday, October 5, Drew Beckett, MPH from the Bourbon County Health Department spoke with Mrs. Amy Majewski's first year AOHS students about the many ways the health department helps in the community. 

AOHS Hosts Pharmacist as Speaker
 
Dr. Latrice Strings, pharmacist from Rite Aid, visited Mrs. Amy Majewski's first year AOHS students to share about a career in retail pharmacy on September 28.

Speaker from UK College of Nursing Visits AOHS
 
Cheryl Witt, RN, MSN from Universty of Kentucky college of nursing visited Mrs. Amy Majewski's first year students on September 21st to discuss various careers in nursing and what UK had to offer.

AOHS Hosts Guest Speakers
 
Dr. Mandy Thornberry, DMD and Elizabeth Herrington, EDDA (2010 PHS graduate) visited Mrs.Amy Majewski's first year students on September 22 to discuss various careers in dentistry.

AOHS Students Visit UK Science Center
 
On September 15, 2015 AOHS second and third year students visited the UK Science Outreach Center.   Dr. Don Frazier gave a presentation on gross anatomy. He gave students the chance to hold a real human brain, spinal cord, lungs and heart in their hands for some hands-on learning in anatomy.  Amanda Morgan participated in an ultrasound demonstration of how the circulatory system works while Dag Salinas participated in the electrical current used to generate muscle movement.  Afterwards, students were given a tour of the Helicopter pad at the UK trauma Hospital.  Visit our Facebook Page to view the complete gallery.
 

Dr. Moses Visits AOHS
 
Dr. Stephen Moses , family practice physician from Cynthiana visited Mrs. Majewski's first year students September 11. He shared information about medical school and encouraged students to do their best.

Courtney Blankenship, RN,  director of emergency services at Bourbon Community Hospital visited Mrs. Amu Majewski's first year students on Sept 8, 2015.

AOHS Students Make Gak!
 
Academy of Health Sciences (AOHS) students reviewed compound reactions in Body Structures and Functions class on September 3, 2015. Students created colorful compound reactions called "Gak", a slime like goo.  The class is taught by Mrs. Amy Majewski.

AOHS Welcomes Emergency Personnel
 
Colby Davis, Fire Fighter/Paramedic and Kendal Williams, Fire fighter/EMT from Paris Fire Dept visited Mrs. Amy Majewski's Principles of Health Sciences class on Thursday, August 28.  After a discussion on the the educational requirements for becoming a paramedic or EMT, they allowed the students to tour the ambulance.
