Arts and Humanities Classes Study Masks
Paris Middle School students in Mrs. Paula Cull's Arts and Humanities classes are currently working on a unit called "A Celebration of Masks". Students are learning how masks are used in celebrations in different countries. The celebrations they are learning about are Diwali (the Indian festival of lights), the Chinese Lantern Festival, and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  Not only are students creating masks and learning about the use of masks in these celebrations, but they are creating other folk art forms along with the masks. Students have created kites for Dia de los Muertos in the Guatemalan style and the photo left shows students working on their Chinese lanterns. Their next project will be creating Rangoli, traditional rice folk art from India.
