Eighth Graders Take Overnight Trip to Zoo

Paris Middle School eighth grade students traveled to the Cincinnati Zoo for an overnight trip to "Sleep with the Manatees". Students got to travel through the zoo during the day and visit all the different exhibits. After the zoo closed, we were able to attend a program where the students got to see the zoo animals at night, visit the exhibits, and go behind the scenes to see what happens at the zoo at night. The students got to sleep in the manatee exhibit overnight to see their sleeping environment.  Click here to view the complete photo gallery.

Kentucky Bank Sponsors Fitness Day!

On October 7th, Paris Middle and High School students participated in a physical activity day.  Students were provided with opportunities to participate in jump rope, weight lifting, volleyball, basketball and walking/jogging.  Students were also given the opportunity to have their heart rate and blood pressure checked by
the Academy of Health Sciences students.  Matt Perraut from Xtreme Fitness assessed the fitness level of many of the students.  Finally, Kentucky Bank provided a healthy snack and Gatorade for all students. Click here to view the complete photo gallery.

Students Create Masks
Students in Mrs. Paula Cull's Arts and Humanities class made sugar skulls for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). They did the sculpting and molding today as a first step and decorated the masks as the final step.  Click here to view the complete photo gallery.

Arts and Humanities Classes Study Masks
Paris Middle School students in Mrs. Paula Cull's Arts and Humanities classes are currently working on a unit called "A Celebration of Masks". Students are learning how masks are used in celebrations in different countries. The celebrations they are learning about are Diwali (the Indian festival of lights), the Chinese Lantern Festival, and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  Not only are students creating masks and learning about the use of masks in these celebrations, but they are creating other folk art forms along with the masks. Students have created kites for Dia de los Muertos in the Guatemalan style and the photo left shows students working on their Chinese lanterns. Their next project will be creating Rangoli, traditional rice folk art from India.
